Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry that focuses on correcting the alignment of a patient’s teeth and jaws.

An orthodontist is a fully trained dentist who has additionally undertaken further postgraduate study and exams, usually over a minimum of a further 7 years, to become recognised by the General Dental Council as a Registered Specialist in Orthodontics (an orthodontist for short). For many orthodontists, it is the challenge of straightening a person’s teeth and moving their jaws into alignment which interests them.

Every dentist must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC). Upon registration, the Council will provide members with their own unique GDC number. Dr Huntley and Dr Rootkin-Gray are also listed on the General Dental Councils specialist register under Orthodontics.

It can for a short period of your treatment. This often comes at a time when your braces have been tightened or you’ve been issued with a new set of Invisalign® clear aligner trays. This discomfort doesn’t last very long – possibly a day or two – and can be treated with over-the-counter pain relief. For the vast majority of the treatment time your teeth feel normal.

Yes you can. In fact, it’s a necessity. We’ll give you some tips on how best to brush your teeth when wearing braces, but please keep up your oral hygiene routine as teeth can be susceptible to decay when wearing braces if you don’t clean them properly.

This depends on the complexity of your problem and its solution. We’ll estimate the length of time your treatment will take after you’ve seen the orthodontist.
